This bigfoot sighting report given to:
Lower Alabama Amateur Bigfoot Researcher Dennis Bauer:
This sighting happened on a post rainy night in August or September of 1979. My husband had been shipped to Germany via the Army already and I was staying with my mother-in-law in Alabama.
The area I am referring to is in Conecuh County, Alabama where Hwy. 84 and Co. Rd. 47 meet. I had gone to pick up my mother-in-law from work. It was about 8PM dusky dark (dark enoguh for low beam lights) when we were just turning onto Co. Rd. 47 to get home, I was driving and am use to see all types of animals on the highway and roadside; however when I turned my headlights struck upon a rather large dark brown and reddish colored animal that I mistakenly assumed was a bear. Bear sightings are rare but not unknown in this area. Now realize at this time both sides of the road was planted in thick Pine Trees with a cattle fence between the trees and the right of way, now as I stated this large animal was in the road.
Much to our surprise, the animal was hunched down with the left side of his body and face toward us and looked straight at us; note now his eyes didn't reflect light - coloring of eyes I can not say. But he had shaggy hair all over him of about 6" long. I keep saying him not knowing the sex, but by the build of the creature. When he stood up he had to be over 7' tall if an inch. He had rather silky looking reddish and brown hair all over his body, but he looked intelligently at us, no fear, no anger - just curious as we were. Also his hair looked smooth and silky, not tangled or filthy as one would expect if you live your life in the woods. His body type was liking to that of a male bodybuilder. His chest was barrel shaped and muscular like a gorilla or musclar man's would be, thin waist and long muscular legs. Now I say muscular because even with the hair, you could tell his chest, thighs and calves were in great shape. But the arms really caught my attention, not withstanding that he had stood up straight - not hunched over as a four legged creature would, but straight as if walking biped was noraml. But his arms were extremely long, reaching to below his thighs almost to the top of his kneecap and his fingers were longer than a normal for a human being.
Now I noticed something else was in the road, apparently something dead - after shaking himself off like a dog would when wet, he scooped down with his right hand picked it up. Looked back at us one time and walked casually away with a stride you couldn't believe. He covered about 25 feet in 3 or 4 steps, literally walked over a 4' high fence and disappeared into the pine thicket leaving me and my mother-in-law speechless.
When I did find my voice I was so full of excitement it was unreal. Upon getting home, I called the police department and told them of the incident - of course it was attributed to a bear incident. Realizing all the cattle owners in the area might be interested, I called the newspaper and got basically the same results. However, somehow a man known as a Bear Hunter came from out of state with these really vicious looking dogs that were suppose to be expert bear trackers. Well they wouldn't track it. Yes, large footprints were crushed into the ground - I do mean large and deep. The dogs smelled and nothing, some whines and whimpers and that was it. The man examined the prints, talked briefly with his companion whom we assume was also a hunter and then they left. Nobody knows if they came back or what was done after that.
Telling this story to several people got me lots of laughs, ribbing for ages, and teasing for a long time; however I know what I say. I have heard the noises no one could explain and still people doubt. My late Grandmother knew, but called them Sasquatch and told of chickens been stolen and finding empty feathered skins as though they were peeled off the birds.
Some people believe but want say because of the ridicule they incur, but there are others like me that KNOW what we saw and heard and know this is a real creature unlike any cataloged or kept in a zoo.
ENVIRONMENT: Pine thicket on each side. Paved road. grassy shoulder sloping slightly down to the thicket. Fenced with 4X4 cattle wire between pines and grass.
ALSO NOTICED: We (meaning my family) have heard grunts and howls unlike anything known before. Things that made our trained Boxer whine and want to come inside with us.
OTHER WITNESSES: 2 - we were driving home, just talking
OTHER INCIDENTS: My late Grandmother knew, but called them Sasquatch and told of chickens been stolen and finding empty feathered skins as though they were peeled off the birds.
Also my friend Dennis gave me a CD of supposed Bigfoot vocalizations. As me and my son was listening to them on the stereo in my bedroom, I heard one howl that sounded like what we had heard before and my chow came in the room and jumped on the bed with me growling at the stereo. She is a very protective companinon of mine. This surprized both my son and myself. The rest of the cd had no affect on her.
